Canel’s BIM/Revit post provides a starting point for discussing models, system information and multidisciplinary coordination in factory electrical design.
In its official BIM/Revit post, Canel Electric describes planning medium-voltage, low-voltage and low-current installations for factory projects before site implementation. Understanding BIM electrical design means considering more than the appearance of a rendered model.
What does BIM make visible in electrical projects?
Autodesk’s BIM and MEP learning material places models in the context of information sharing and spatial coordination between disciplines. Reviewing mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems together creates a common basis for design conversations.
Autodesk’s electrical-systems training also explains power and lighting circuits and panel schedules in Revit. These are general capabilities of the software. They do not establish that a company uses every feature or the same scope on every project.
What should clients ask about a model handover?
- Scope: Which electrical systems and interfaces are represented?
- Coordination: Which version of the information from other disciplines has been used?
- Revision: How will model changes and drawing updates be tracked?
- Use: Who will use the model and deliverables, and for which purpose?
These questions connect the visual quality of a Revit MEP electrical model with the information it contains. Discussing the expected information at the start helps establish a clear relationship between what the client needs and what the model-delivery scope includes.
Does BIM alone prove time or cost savings?
No. A model or model-to-site comparison does not by itself establish the time or cost saved on a particular project. A performance claim would need comparable project records. This article does not assign a measured improvement percentage to Canel.
